Hi! I am Dr. Lee Ann Hovious and I want to welcome you to my practice. In the next few pages my dental team and I would like to introduce ourselves and share with you some information about us. For starters, I was born in Jefferson City, Missouri. At a very young age my family, being originally from Kentucky, moved to Madisonville, Kentucky. This was a small town in western Kentucky and I felt it was an excellent place to grow up. My family was very active in the community with school activities, community service as well as church functions. I was raised being taught to be helpful to others and to treat all mankind equal.
When I was sixteen years old, I began working for a dentist in my hometown after school hours and in the summer and loved it. I enjoyed the interaction with the patients and helping them to achieve their dental goals. After graduating from high school, I attended the University of Kentucky. My parents had both graduated from there, so I felt I would follow in their footsteps and I attended the University of Kentucky Dental Hygiene program. Upon completion of this, I practiced dental hygiene in private practice and also continued my education with a full time pre-dental curriculum. I additionally taught at the University of Kentucky Dental Hygiene school part-time and I really enjoyed the teaching aspect.
In 1986 I began dental school at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. With my dental hygiene background, I really had a love for the field of periodontics (dealing with the health of the gums and the teeth). I knew when I began dental school that I wanted to become a periodontist. After completion of dental school, I was accepted into the periodontal program at the University of Tennessee in Memphis for my post doctoral residency.
In 1992, I completed the periodontal program and set up private practice here in Knoxville, Tennessee. In order to serve two areas of Knoxville, I chose to have a practice in West Knoxville and in South Knoxville.
There are two things I love the most about Knoxville, the people and the beauty of the area. My husband and I enjoy running, biking and hiking and we can find some of the best locations to do these activities right out our back door here in East Tennessee. We both are periodontists so we do have a lot to talk about, as well as having many common interests. Our “kids” include two Dalmatians, “Blair and Madison” and our tabby cat, “Lucy.”
Regarding my professional life, I have always been involved with my chosen career both in and away from the office. I am an active member of the Second District Association Tennessee Dental Association, American Dental Association Academy of Periodontology. I am a Board Certified-Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology which is the most advanced education and training that can be acquired in my profession.
I feel honored to have achieved this goal as a periodontist as only approximately 23% of the periodontists in the USA
are board certified. Additionally, I have completed a one-year preceptorship in dental implants
at the Health Science Center at the University of Texas, San Antonio
and received my fellowship at the Misch International Implant Institute in dental implants - one of the top training facilities for dental implantology internationally.
I am involved with various other dental organizations that provide top educational speakers that are known on a national and international level. As one can tell, I am an avid student,
as continuing education helps me to keep up with the rapid changes of the dental profession to provide my patients with the best knowledge and the latest technology and techniques that modern dentistry has to offer.
The vision for my practice is to provide a caring, helpful and soothing environment for my patients.
In an effort to do so it is very important to me to be surrounded by a group of
professional people who share the same vision and commitment that I have.
My team and I are committed to listening to our patients, finding out what they want for their long term dental health and
then we use knowledge and expertise to help them achieve their
goals.
